The Cabinet Office had demanded the former MP for Mid-Bedfordshire hand over an advance copy of the book under so-called Radcliffe Rules, which ensure any books or memoirs from a person’s time in government can be scrutinised for sensitive content. Breaching the rules could result in her being blacklisted from any future public appointments, including a peerage.
“The book is not about me, or my previous role as a secretary of state. It is not a memoir in any remote sense of the word and has zero to do with policy or official secrets.
