Tres excampeonas del Abierto de Australia —Naomi Osaka, Caroline Wozniacki y Angelique Kerber— tienen previsto volver al torneo en enero tras sus ausencias por maternidad.

Asimismo, está previsto el retorno de Rafael Nadal, monarca en 2022, y del favorito local Nick Kyrgios. Craig Tiley, director del torneo, dijo el miércoles que Nadal, aquejado por un problema en el flexor de la cadera izquierda, y Kyrgios, lastimado de una rodilla y una muñeca, contemplan volver, recuperados de sus lesiones, para desafiar el dominio de Novak Djokovic en la Rod Laver Arena, donde el serbio ha conseguido 10 de sus 24 títulos del Grand Slam —un récord.

Tiley añadió que Djokovic y Carlos Alcaraz esperan liderar el grupo de participantes en la rama masculina. Aryna Sabalenka e Iga Swiatek, jugarían en la rama de mujeres, lo mismo que Coco Gauff, flamante campeona del Abierto de Estados Unidos. El torneo se realizará el 14 al 28 de enero.
