Naco Elementary School's School Resource Officer, Bobby Zavala, was named SRO of the year for the state of Arizona earlier this month. He was nominated by the students.
NACO, Ariz. — Cochise County Sheriff's Deputy Bobby Zavala is always one call away for anyone who needs help.
“I’ve done a lot of jobs in my life and this truly has been one of the most rewarding," Zavala said."Because it’s just the impact we have, and the positive impact we have on the kids and the staff as well.”“He’s just an overall great person," eighth grader Adriana Acosta said."He makes you feel safe. You can talk to him as a friend, without being judged or anything.”
Zavala said over the last few years he's been at the school there haven't been any fights or student violence. “If I sat here and told you I wasn’t crying, I’d be lying to ya," Zavala said."I was in tears because it it made me realize this is where God needs me. I’m a firm believer this is where I need to be for however long I need to be here.”
