N.J. weather: Rain in the forecast, but not a weekend washout

The weekend will be a mixed bag with some rain on Saturday and cloudy, breezy conditions on Sunday, forecasters say.

Thursday will be the last in a stretch of dry days in New Jersey with afternoon highs in the 60s expected.The weekend forecast is taking shape and while it won’t be a pleasant couple of days of weather inLight rain is expected to start after midnight along and to the east of the Interstate 95 corridor, the weather service said in its morning forecast discussion.

While no severe weather is likely, rain is expected for much of the day and forecasters aren’t ruling out an isolated thunderstorm. Friday will be pretty mild with temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 60s before falling into the 50s at night.Breezy conditions move in as the rain pushes away Saturday afternoon on what forecasters say will be a mostly cloudy day.

“Clouds and lingering showers, but overall, certainly not a washout... most of the area probably sees a majority of the day turn out dry, especially the afternoon,” the weather service said in its morning forecast discussion.It’ll be a sunny with highs in the 50s, but winds that could gust to 30-35 mph will make it feel cooler. Overnight lows into Monday will then plunge into the upper 30s and low 40s — “downright chilly”, the weather service said.

While there will be some lingering rain in the first half of Saturday most of the weekend in New Jersey should be dry, but breezy and cool.Monday will also be dry and cool — forecasters are calling for sunny skies with temps making it only into the 50s.
