Nic Fink, who attended the Pingry School, is one of the world's top breaststroke swimmers.
Nic Fink swims during the Men's 100 breaststroke preliminaries Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the US Swimming Olympic Trials in Indianapolis. APNic Fink will head to Paris next month with a chance to add the one thing missing from his otherwise impressive swimming resume: an Olympic medal.
The 30-year-old Morristown native, a six-time World Championship gold medalist, won the 100-meter breaststroke at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Sunday night in Indianapolis. He will return to thefor a second time — and, given his recent success, will be one of the favorites to climb atop the medal stand in his signature event.
The Pingry School graduate won the race in 59.08, narrowly edging Charlie Swanson for the top spot. Fink had revealed a day earlier that his wife, former Olympian Melanie Margalis Fink, is pregnant with their first child, and as he celebrated this Father’s Day victory in the pool, he made a motion with his arms as if cradling a baby.
Fink, who finished fifth in the 200-meter breaststroke at the Tokyo Olympics, also will attempt to qualify for a spot on Team USA in that event later this week. Even if he fails to do so, it is likely that Fink will have a second shot at a medal in the 4x100-meter medley relay.Fink entered the Olympic Trials as the favorite in the 100 breaststroke and as the reigning world champion in the event, thanks to a gold medal earlier this year in Doha.
