The agency is recommending that all people in high transmission counties wear masks for indoor public settings regardless of vaccination status.There were 5,251 coronavirus patients hospitalized throughout 69 of the state’s 71 hospitals as of Monday night, down by around 60 patients from the night before. There were 427 people discharged over that same 24-hour period.
More than 2.57 million of the 4.95 million people in New Jersey eligible for boosters have received one. The state does not issue daily breakdowns of the vaccine status of those who test positive, are hospitalized, or died because of the virus. Officials say vaccinated people are less likely to contract the virus and much less likely to develop life-threatening cases. Since the start of the academic year, there have been 109,341 students and 32,393 school staff members who have contracted COVID-19, though the state has never had more than two-thirds of the school districts reporting data in any week.
