Police were right to deny a gun permit to a New Jersey man whose expunged criminal records were found during a background check, a state appeals court ruled Tuesday. But the man can keep the five weapons he already owned inside his house for now because there was “no basis” for police to seize and “compel the sale” of those guns under existing law, the court ruled.
