N.J man sentenced to prison for using apps to distribute child sex abuse materials

Published: Feb. 13, 2026, 10:10 a.m.A New Jersey man in possession of more than 1,000 items of child sexual abuse material has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison. Edward Lynch, 53, of Toms River will be required to serve the full term, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said.

He will also be required to register as a sex offender and be on parole supervision for life. Lynch downloaded the materials and used encrypted messaging apps including Telegram, Session and the since-discontinued Wickr Me to share the items. Authorities received a tip about someone downloading the materials and launched an investigation. They identified Lynch’s residence through the associated IP address. Lynch was charged with two counts of possession of child sex abuse material and one count of distribution of child sex abuse material. He pleaded guilty to the distribution charge.
