Mount Laurel Police were notified in August 2020 that DNA found at the crime scene had been matched to Vasquez.

A man has been sentenced to eight years in prison in a home invasion and sexual assault after investigators found a DNA match 23 years after the incident, Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw said.

His DNA was added to the system after he pleaded guilty to contempt of a judicial order in connection with driving without a license in 2019, authorities said. “This case strongly demonstrates the value of the CODIS database as a law enforcement tool,” Bradshaw said. “I commend all of the investigators and law enforcement personnel whose thorough, diligent work held the defendant accountable after all of this time and brought justice for the victim.”

She said the man grabbed her and struck her in the head multiple times before sexually assaulting her, telling her not to call the police and fleeing the home, according to authorities.
