The alleged killer was an acquaintance of the victim, prosecutors said.

A man entered the home of a 74-year-old woman and killed her before taking off with her car and bank card, authorities alleged.

Kishan, S. Seth, 21, of Newark, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with various crimes including murder, weapons offenses, first-degree home invasion and multiple theft charges and disturbing, moving or concealing human remains, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said. Seth is accused of entering the home of Rita Acharya, located on East Ridgewood Avenue in the suburb of Paramus, and causing her death by strangling and stabbing her.

Prosecutors also allege that he attempted to cover up the crime before grabbing her debit card and taking off in her vehicle. Police conducted a welfare check at Acharya’s home at 4:08 p.m. on Monday and found her body on a sofa, officials said.
