A 59-year-old man was arrested in Maryland hours after he beat and strangled his live-in girlfriend to death in their Lakewood home and then stole her car, authorities said. John Filistovich was taken into custody in Salisbury, Maryland, on Tuesday after Maryland State Police found him in his girlfriend’s car parked on the side of a road, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Betty Perry, 60, was found dead on a bedroom floor in the home on Thornbury Court at about 12:15 p.m. that day after police were called there for a welfare check, officials said. A post-mortem examination revealed Perry had blunt force injuries her the head, neck, and chest and had been suffocated. Filistovich was charged Tuesday with stealing Perry’s car and her murder on Thursday. He is being held at Wicomico County Corrections Center in Salisbury and will be extradited to New Jersey.Attorney information wasn’t immediately available.
