The Morris County man was arrested this week in Bergen County, authorities said.
Amit Bhatt was charged with sexual assault and child endangerment, according to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella.
Police in Lyndhurst alerted the prosecutor’s office special victims unit on Jan. 11 about the alleged sexual assault of a child, according to Musella. “An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Lyndhurst Police Department revealed that [Bhatt] sexually assaulted the victim, a child younger than 13,” Musella said in a statement.
Police arrested Bhatt on Tuesday in Parsippany, according to the prosecutor. Bergen County Sheriff’s Office records show he was released from the county jail Wednesday ahead of further court hearings. Authorities did not release more information about the case. It was unclear if Bhatt had retained an attorney who could comment.
