Boston-based software company ioard has collaborated with N.J. librarian Martha Hickson to create free book banning reporting resource.

Legislative Consultant Mary Moyer Stubbs saying that the association has seen a rise in challenges to books, as well as in self-censorship, across New Jersey in recent years.

“I had attended an iorad demonstration that conducted last spring, and I had been using the tool in my teaching since then. It’s a simple, interactive way to create “how to” demos,” Hickson said. When using Demo Defense, users can report a book banning attempt that is happening at their school district or public library to the American Library Association, Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, National Coalition Against Censorship, and/or the National Council of Teachers of English.
