A longtime New Jersey political operative with a history of accusations of campaign mischief now faces criminal election fraud charges after authorities say he filed a petition with nearly 2,000 of bogus signatures on behalf of his romantic partner, a frequent candidate for office. Jim Devine faces third-degree charges of election fraud and records tampering stemming from a petition for Lisa McCormick’s failed 2021 bid for governor, according to state Attorney General Matthew Platkin’s office.a Twitter post
