A Vestavia Hills resident’s Reddit post showing a video of a mysterious canine creature roaming free set online tongues wagging about whether it was a wolf, a wolfdog, a coyote or something else. But it's not nearly that mysterious.
A Vestavia Hills resident’s Reddit post showing a video of a mysterious canine creature roaming free set online tongues wagging about whether it was a wolf, a wolfdog, a coyote or something else.
“I am aware of some reported sightings of a wolf. I’ve seen the photos of it. And it’s a dog, wearing a dog collar. It’s a domesticated animal,” said Capt. Shane Ware of the Vestavia Hills Police Department. “We’ve got photos and videos of it, and you can clearly see the collar on the dog’s neck. It looks like it’s a mix between a husky and something. Very, very good-looking dog.
But Ware said that a resident had come forward with a clearer video, which she shared with the city’s animal control department. In that video, the dog was clearly wearing a collar — a detail not easily noticeable if at all, in the original Reddit video.Neither the dog’s identity nor his ownership was clear.
