The author recounts their increasingly unpleasant experiences with rideshare services, particularly Tesla models. They express their intense aversion to Teslas, comparing them to coffins and questioning the design choices.
Let's be honest, I can't drive and I don't understand the difference between a station wagon, a caravan, or a hatchback. I know so little about cars that I had to google those terms. This lack of car knowledge rarely bothers me, except in two situations. First, if I ever witnessed a bank heist and the police asked me to describe the getaway car, I wouldn't be much help. Second, I'm the person who walks around the car to read the license plate to make sure I'm getting into the right Uber.
Recently, my rideshare experiences have been less than pleasant. Uber and Lyft rides feel like being on a broken Tilt-A-Whirl. I sway in the back seat, fighting nausea until I can finally roll down the window. Arriving at my destination, I'm still feeling the effects of motion sickness. I've never been a fan of car rides, but lately, it feels like a new, terrible car has entered the market. The car isn't actually new, but the experience is undeniably unpleasant. While Elon Musk has done a lot of harm to society, the Tesla is a special kind of awful. It's like riding in a coffin. They're too low to the ground, pitch-black inside, and every single Tesla ride makes me feel like I'm going to vomit for a million years. I'm not alone in this feeling; there are articles about how Teslas, and electric cars in general, can make passengers carsick. Now, when I order a ride, I silently pray for any car other than a Tesla, which seems to be the only option these days.I'd even take a tandem bike with a teenager offering to drive me! But hey, I get it. Other than me throwing up in the back, the Tesla is perfect. If there's anything I want in a car that can reach 200 miles per hour, it's for the door to be practically useless. I understand why you'd want the handle to be fused to the door, making it impossible to open on rainy or freezing days. And let's not forget the mysterious operation of the Tesla's doors and windows. Is the button for the window or the door? Or both? It's a real guessing game. For drivers, there are probably other issues with the Tesla. It seems like steering one would feel like maneuvering a Roomba. Charging it sounds like a hassle. And let's be honest, they're ugly. Musk is also responsible for the recent surge in, shall we say, eccentric billionaires. All I want is to avoid Teslas altogether. Rideshare apps wouldn't expect me to ride home in an ambulance, a school bus, or the apple worm's car from those Richard Scarry books. Surely there's a way to keep me out of a Tesla, too
