She blames me.
I am the divorced father of a 16-year-old daughter, Gracie. When Gracie was 12 and entering middle school, her mother and I were separated and going through a contentious divorce. The age, divorce, starting middle school, and participating in a demanding sport created the perfect storm, and Gracie developed an eating disorder and started cutting. Due to the tension between her mother and me, we didn’t realize any of this until Gracie collapsed at school and was taken to the hospital.
Her mother disagrees, however, and is worried that she has relapsed and is hiding it. She called Gracie’s therapist, and when her therapist didn’t give her the response she wanted, she tried to get Gracie to go to a new therapist for a second opinion. She hounds her about what she does and doesn’t eat.
