St. Benedict’s, ranked No. 1 in the NJ.com Top 20, repeated as Non-Public A champs with a 4-3 win over Pingry to complete its undefeated season.Amadou Hann, St. Benedict’s, Sr. Hann netted the game-winner with 20:31 to go in regulation after Pingry battled back from down 3-1 to tie it 3-3 as his goal made it 4-3 and clinched the win for the Gray Bees.
The sophomore scored 15 minutes into the game to tie the game at 1-1 for St. Benedict’s and put the Gray Bees right back in it and tip momentum back in their favor early. Addo also scored the game-winner in the finals of the Essex County Tournament.The center back for the Gray Bees, Laribah was in the right place at the right time, scoring the second goal to put Benedict’s up 2-1 and break a 1-1 tie and Laribah assisted on the Gray Bees’ third goal as well.Lopez scored two of Pingry’s three goals, including one to put Pingry up 1-0 early, and has been on a tear this postseason, as he scored all four goals in their win over St. Joseph in the South, Non-Public A quarters and scored both goals in their semifinal win over Christian Brothers as well.A lifelong Bergen County resident, Jake Aferiat joined the NJ.com high school sports staff in September 2022.
