Catholics in Aceh, Indonesia, celebrate a quiet Christmas amidst strict Sharia law, focusing on faith and harmony despite challenges as a minority‘An incredible thing’: Catholic groups collect Christmas toys for children in needChristians take selfies after the Christmas Eve Mass at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Banda Aceh on December 24, 2024, ahead of the 20th anniversary of the 2004 tsunami disaster.
Aceh has been widely criticised by rights groups for punishments of moral offences under the strict law, such as public canings for alleged adultery.
