A screenshot circulating online suggesting Elon Musk is impersonating superfan 'Adrian Dittmann' on X is deemed fake by an X insider. The image, originating from 4chan, displays features not available to X employees, fueling speculation about Musk's true identity.

A screenshot suggesting billionaire Elon Musk is cosplaying as superfan “Adrian Dittmann” with special X account permissions is likely fake, a source at X tells The Verge. The source, who claims to know nothing about Dittmann's identity, says the image posted on 4chan's /pol/ board doesn't reflect a real interface for X employees.

The screenshot, posted by a user claiming to be Adrian Dittmann, shows a post from Musk’s X page with non-standard links to an “Admin Portal” and a “Bans” page, hinting at special privileges. However, the source says these options don't exist for X employees logged into their accounts. In fact, X employees see the same interface as other users, with the exception of new features being tested. This suggests that other elements of the screenshot, like an analytics link only appearing for the author of a post, were also fabricated to suggest Musk is secretly Dittmann. The hints spread overnight on social media alongside other posts by the 4chan user, mostly praising Musk and defending his X policies amidst infighting with other conservatives over immigration. It's unclear who posted the screenshots. “Adrian Dittmann” is a longtime X user, whose Musk fandom and vocal similarities have fueled rumors that they are secretly Musk himself. (Musk has cosplayed as his son on the site, making this a plausible assertion.) User Mag’s Taylor Lorenz has noted that Dittmann benefits greatly from the speculation that they are Musk, and it’s possible the doctored screenshots are Dittmann playing into that. The 4chan posts could also be from an unrelated impersonator, amplifying the idea of Musk as a desperate forum poster
