Dolly Parton says a new musical based on her life story is heading to Broadway.
The country music legend, 78, announced Thursday from the stage of the annual CMA Fest in Nashville, Tenn., that the musical, “Hello, I’m Dolly,” will make its Broadway debut in 2026, according to a news release. “Hello, I’m Dolly” takes its title from the name of Parton’s first studio album released in 1967. Parton herself will write the musical’s score, which will feature some of her biggest hits as well as new songs she penned just for the musical, according to the release.
She told Variety in 2016 that she had already spent a year “working on a Broadway musical based on my life story and it delved into my childhood.” “The whole first act is my early days before I went to Nashville. The second act is about my days in Nashville and beyond,” the singer said. Parton’s Broadway news comes less than two weeks after she announced the upcoming release of a new album and a docuseries.
