Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala was asked about moving abroad with his future in Germany uncertain as his contract runs down
Jamal Musiala sidestepped questions about a move to England after moving into the final two years of his Bayern Munich contract.
Musiala, 21, is one of the most exciting midfielders in Europe and has impressed for club and country over the past year. His omission from the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d'Or prompted an angry response from Bayern sporting director Max Eberl, who said that it was "completely incomprehensible" that "one of the most fascinating players in international football with absolutely exceptional, unique abilities" had been left out.
With ageing legs in the City midfield - Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva are all 30 or over - Musiala has been linked with a move to the Etihad as a long-term replacement in the middle. As he prepares for international fixtures with the Germany team, the former Chelsea youngster did not sound closed off to the idea of playing in a different league.
"I'm very happy at FC Bayern and fully focused on our goals," he told Welt Am Sonntag. "Playing abroad like Bellingham? I'm not thinking about where I will be in five years. Things can always change quickly in the world of football." If Bayern are unable to agree a new deal with Musiala over the course of the next season, the summer of 2025 will be the last time they are able to get a fee for him rather than risk losing him on a free transfer. The longer there isn't a new contract signed, the more encouragement other clubs will take that they could be able to sign Musiala.
