The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued an update on a nationwide mushroom recall, announcing a Class I classification—the body's highest risk warning—on January 14.A recall was previously initiated after listeria was found in samples of the product.Why It MattersAccording to the FDA, a Class I recall represents 'a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.
Remaining products were destroyed, according to a New Age International company announcement.As of Monday, no illnesses had been reported to date in connection with the product, per the FDA.New Age International declined to comment to Newsweek.Enoki mushrooms are a type of edible fungus widely used in East Asian cuisines.They are known for their delicate appearance, long and thin white stems, and small, button-like caps.
