Bigger still for 23-year-old Luis Campusano, who was working his 11“Awesome, it’s amazing,” Campusano said. “It’s a big confidence booster.”
Musgrove began talking with Campusano over the weekend in Kansas City, after the catcher was recalled Friday from Triple-A. The veteran pitcher spoke earlier in the week of being impressed that, unlike last year, Campusano was asking the right questions and seemed more engaged in the process.they would be on the same page by the time Wednesday arrived but conceded that wouldn’t be known until the game was played.
The pair ran into some issues in the sixth and seventh innings, when runners reached second base. Musgrove has certain signals he relies on to move form pitch selection to pitch selection when an opponent is on second base and could theoretically steal signs. He and Campusano had to meet once and consult the index card with pitch calls on it a few times in those innings.
Musgrove hardly shook off Campusano as they cruised through the first five innings. Musgrove allowed one hit and struck out nine in that opening stretch. He finished having allowed three runs on three hits, two walks and two hit batters while striking out a season-high 11.
