VOLO, Ill. - A museum got a ticket in the mail for a car that was sitting on display. An authentic replica of the famous talking car from the classic television series “Knight Rider” has received an unexpected traffic ticket, despite never leaving its display.
The Volo Museum in Illinois said it was issued a $50 citation from New York City alleging that “KITT” was speeding in a school zone. According to the ticket, the vehicle, modeled after a 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, was photographed violating traffic laws. But museum officials say the car has been stationary and on display for years.
They believe the city’s traffic enforcement system may have mistakenly linked the novelty license plates seen in the image to the replica vehicle housed at the museum.
