Ana Hyde, operations manager at the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound studio, lost her home in a fire on January 4th, 2025. The community has come together to support her and her family, raising over $7,000 in a GoFundMe campaign.

A Jan. 4 fire destroyed the home of Muscle Shoals Sound ’s operations manager Ana Hyde . Hyde’s also arranged confidential visits by many other celebs to that storied Alabama studio, where artists like The Rolling Stones and Staples Singers cut classic tracks. She handles group tours and manages staff schedules, too.

(Courtesy Muscle Shoals Sound“She’s the glue that holds us together at the studio, for sure.” Muscle Shoals Sound executive director Debbie Wilson says. “She’s always taking care of everybody else.” Now, Hyde, who’s worked at Muscle Shoals Sound since 2015, and her family need help. On the night of Jan. 4, an electrical fire destroyed their Sheffield home, which was built by her maternal grandparents in 1955. She and her two teenage children lost everything they owned. “And if they had been there,” Wilson says, “it could have been a much worse scenario. She’s strong, but this is tough for anybody.”A fundraising campaign was started to assist Hyde and her children. As of publishing of this story, more than $7,000 has been raised towards the campaign’s $50,000 goal. “We’re trying to get them back to some sense of normalcy,” Wilson says. Hyde losing her home in a fire have given her heightened empathy for the thousands in Los Angeles dealing with similar losses this week, Wilson says, as wildfires continue to ravage L.A. In addition to monetary help, helpful donations for Hyde’s family include: gift cards, toiletries (toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, razors, etc.); first aid supplies (bandages, pain relievers, etc.); ready-to-eat food (snack bars, canned goods, etc.); feminine hygiene products; bottled water, and household supplies (bedding, towels, kitchenware, small appliances, furniture, cleaning supplies). Hyde’s family is also in need of everyday clothing (shirts, pants, undergarments, socks, shoes); seasonal wear (coats, hats, gloves, scarves, etc.) and pajamas. Women’s sizes needed: shirts small and XL; pants four to six, and 12; shoes 7.5 and 8. Men’s sizes needed: medium shirts; 32 waist by 34 length pants; and 12.5 shoes. A local hotel is generously putting up the family this weekend, and Monday they will be moving into a Tuscumbia rental house. The latter was facilitated by a fan who saw a post on Muscle Shoals Sound’s Facebook page about Hyde’s situation. “It’s friends and family, but it’s also strangers,” Wilson says of those who’ve reached out to help. “It’s kind of restored my cynical view of humanity. Ana’s just been overwhelmed with gratitude that these people are stepping in to help. “This community comes together. It also is a testament of the impact Ana’s made on the community and continues to. She’s a background person who doesn’t like a lot of attention. But everybody loves her, and we certainly do.

Aircraft Noise Linked to Stiffened Heart MuscleAircraft Noise Linked to Stiffened Heart MuscleA study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology found that people living near airports with high aircraft noise levels had stiffer and thicker heart muscles, indicating impaired blood pumping efficiency. Researchers analyzed data from the UK Biobank health research project and defined high aircraft noise as exceeding 50 decibels during the day and 45 decibels at night. They found a 7% increase in heart mass and 4% greater heart thickness among individuals exposed to loud aircraft noise, compared to those living in quieter areas. These changes, potentially caused by the constant din, were associated with a fourfold increased risk of heart attack.
