MURRAY — Murray High School announced Monday that it will keep remote learning until the middle of March after a fire at the school last week.Murray High School was evacuated on Friday after a fire in the dust-collection system.
Initially, the Murray City School District said the school would transition to remote learning from Feb. 23 to Feb. 27 due to ongoing cleanup efforts.However, district spokesperson Doug Perry said Monday the school's campus will remain closed for an additional two weeks, with students and staff expected to return in-person on March 16.Murray City School District officials said the extended closure will provide the restoration company with ample time to complete the necessary cleanup for a safe return of its students and staff."High school officials, who have temporarily set up operations at the Murray City School District office, will be connecting with parents more on how remote learning will be conducted," the district wrote in a statement.While remote learning persists, student attendance will continue to be taken daily. Students will be expected to complete their assignments through the Canvas platform."We appreciate the patients of our students, families, and educators as we continue to navigate these changes," the district wrote.Though the classrooms are closed amid the cleanup, the school's Spring Fling dance will still take place Saturday in the main gym.
