New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said Wednesday that the coronavirus has created a “new normal” for the state that’s likely to continue long after businesses are allowed to reopen.
In New Jersey, Murphy issued a series of executive orders last month that have effectively shut down the state. Schools, nonessential businesses and county and state parks have been closed until further notice and all mass gatherings have been banned. The governor has also told residents to remain at home and to venture out only when necessary.
Murphy has credited social distancing with mitigating of the spread of the virus and said those efforts would need to continue for the foreseeable future.
