Initially facing attempted murder charges, Butler now faces murder and additional counts of battery and making criminal threats against a bystander who intervened. The attack occurred in front of Sheron's home, known to neighbors as the 'Trump House,' adorned with American flags and Trump memorabilia. Escondido police have not ruled out political motivations but have no evidence to support it. Butler, jailed without bail, refused to attend his hearing at Vista Superior Court, frustrating Sheron's supporters who gathered, demanding justice.
They held a banner reading, 'Justice for Kerry.
' Sheron's friends and family remember him as a selfless volunteer who didn't deserve such a fate. The attack was vicious, with Butler punching Sheron once in the jaw, causing him to fall, then repeatedly striking his head. A bystander who tried to help was also injured. Butler was arrested a few blocks away from the scene.
