'I went through all of that sh*t and came out on the other side, still able to generate self-love and compassion and understanding for other people.' –MunroeBergdorf 💖
Munroe’s dynamic with her parents also turned around. In her early 20s, her father’s battle with cancer brought them together and helped rectify old hurts. She sees a clearer picture of them now, saying, “My parents are still together. They're very, very hard workers. I think that my mum's extremely feisty, like I am, and my dad is extremely stubborn, like I am.” The shift in their relationship helps Munroe feel optimistic about other families with trans children.
After college, Munroe began her career in fashion, initially on the public relations side of the equation, for a large, London-based agency. After working for three years as a harried underling, she felt burned out and relentlessly dysphoric. By the timewas passed by Parliament, which provided measures to protect trans people in the workplace, she already felt it was too late to salvage her relationship with her employers.
