Municipalities drowning in debt and unable to collect
Municipalities across the country are struggling to deliver services as residents, businesses and other entities owe billions in unpaid bills. The province’s portfolio committee on premier, finance, cooperative governance, human settlements and traditional affairs has expressed concern that municipalities face an unsustainable future, as they are unable to collect effectively.
