A mum has urged other parents 'not to ignore things' after her son's cancer diagnosis. When he first fell ill Caroline Chung thought her 14-year-old son, Liam Jones, had whooping cough, which is known as the '100-day cough' because of how long it takes to recover from it.
"However, I started to get concerned when he began getting taller but was losing weight quite gradually. He also didn't have as much energy; he's sociable but started staying in a lot." Then around two months ago, Liam showed his mum a lump on his collarbone which hadn't been there before. Caroline continued: "I took him to the doctors who gave him an ultrasound. We were there for half an hour. When we went home they called us within an hour to come back for an x-ray.
Liam was diagnosed with stage two Hodgkin's Lymphoma, an uncommon cancer that develops in the lymphatic system, which is a network of vessels and glands spread throughout your body. Caroline said: "It sounds crazy but it was a bit of a relief. They had told us what they thought it was and that it was curable so it was better to hear that what Liam has isn't terminal.
