'I lived on meal replacement drinks while re-introducing soft foods and had to learn to talk again'
Sandie Griffin, 72, from Southport, was sat having breakfast at her kitchen table when she noticed a small lump on the side of her neck. One week later, the lump had grown in size and she went to see her GP.
"And some things I used to hate; I really like now. I still find it hard to swallow certain foods, but it’s all a small price to pay for my life. I was told I was in remission in July 2021, and I am now on six-monthly checks. The clinical trial that saved Sadie's life was funded by Stand Up To Cancer – a joint fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4 – and Sandie hopes her story will inspire people to raise money to help make the next cancer breakthrough happen.
