Multiple new candidates are entering the race for Utah's 2nd District in the ongoing special election to replace Congressman Chris Stewart.upcoming resignation on Sept. 15As of late Monday afternoon, more than a dozen candidates had filed to run for the soon-to-be-vacant seat.
The latest candidates to file were mostly Republicans – Scott Allen Hatfield, R. Quin Denning, Remy Bubba Kush, Celeste Maloy, Bill Hoster, Scott Reber, Jordan Hess, and Henry Eyring.Last week, several notable GOP contenders including former Utah House Speaker Greg Hughes, former state lawmaker Becky Edwards, and Republican national committeeman Bruce Hough.The filing deadline is set for June 14 at 5 p.m., and it is expected that more candidates will join the race.
The primary election to replace Stewart is scheduled for Sept. 5, followed by the general election on Nov. 21.
