AURORA, Colo. — A crash involving multiple vehicles, including a police car, has shut down an intersection near Buckley Space Force Base in Aurora. In a social media post, the Aurora Police Department said 'numerous' first responders are working the crash at the intersection of East Alameda Parkway and South Buckley Road.
Police said one vehicle caught fire immediately after the collision.In an update, Aurora PD said four cars, including a police vehicle, were involved. The department said the police vehicle was 'at the same intersection during the crash.' The officer inside was uninjured. Six people — three adults and three children — were injured in the crash. Aurora police said most suffered minor injuries, while an adult was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The vehicle that burst into flames was an electric vehicle. Aurora Fire Rescue said the battery was damaged in the crash and is in 'thermal runaway, resulting in a fire.' Firefighters are letting the fire burn itself out to limit hazardous water runoff. AFR said flames and smoke will be visible for an 'extended time.' The Aurora PD Traffic Unit is investigating the crash. The department said the circumstances leading up to the crash are still being determined.The intersection is shut down. Drivers are asked to follow the temporary roadblocks that are in place. This is a developing story.
