Police and emergency crews responded Sunday to an active shooter incident near Canfield Mountain, Idaho, where multiple firefighters were reportedly shot while battling a brush fire,The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the active shooter situation unfolded in the area of East Nettleton Gulch Road, where fire crews had responded to a vegetation fire.
Northern Lakes Fire Protection District Chief Pat Riley said the firefighters were shot while working the fire, prompting crews to retreat.“My immediate reaction was completely heartbroken,” Riley said. “We trained for this. You never want to see it in your own community.”He also noted that, at this time, evacuations are not expected. However, residents in the area are urged to remain aware of their surroundings and to follow any instructions from law enforcement as the situation continues to develop. Chief Riley also said law enforcement agencies from multiple jurisdictions have responded to assist with the incident.
