Reports say that the shooting began around 3:30 p.m. inside the shopping center. At 6 p.m. police continued performing a sweep of the grounds, including inside each store. CBS 11 aired interviews with some of the people on site when the shootings occurred. One man told a reporter that he and his fiancee had been in lockdown inside one of the stores for about 2 hours.
At 6:45 p.m. Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey told reporters during a short briefing that the shooter was"neutralized" by an Allen officer who had reported to the shopping center on an unrelated call. An Allen Fire Department representative said 9 victims were taken to the hospital, but did not provide their status. He also noted that number did not necessarily represent the total number of casualties as some might have been taken to the hospital by private vehicles.
