The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that at approximately 4:10 a.m., a tractor tractor with a refrigerant trailer struck the cow near mile marker 481, becoming disabled on the right shoulder. A second tractor trailer, a car hauler, then collided with the disabled vehicle before flipping into the median and catching fire.All occupants were able to exit their vehicles. The driver of the car hauler was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
The The Caldwell County Office of Emergency Management said the roadway finally reopened after crews removed "thousands of pounds of ham from the roadway." The crash occurred near Exit 482, also known as the San Marcos exit, in the southern part of Caldwell County.
