Work on Long Eaton's high street is now not due to be complete by October 2026
A multi-million-pound project to regenerate a town's high street has been hit by further delays. Redeveloping Long Eaton ’s High Street forms a £10 million chunk of the £25 million Town Deal secured for the area in 2021, but delays now mean it is now not due to be completed until October 2026.
The Long Eaton High Street project will see the area “revitalised to make a pedestrian-friendly space” with new paving, street furniture and planting. As it stands construction on the project will be around half-complete by the time the money is required to have been spent – by then five years on from it being awarded to the council.The current timeline is for work to start in November 2025 and finish in October 2026.
A new council report on the projects says that designs for the high street redevelopment were rejected by Derbyshire County Council due to insufficient work around “hazardous vehicle management”, with decisions around that causing the current delays. It says examining options for “accelerating any or all of the design, business case approval and construction elements of the programme” will take place in September. On Galaxy Row, the report has a brief sentence: “The procurement of a development partner is continuing. Further updates to the design and construction programme will be contingent on the selected contractor.”
