Robert Mueller’s reluctance to be in the political arena runs headlong into Democrats’ desire that he explain the decisions he made as special counsel in his report on Russian election interference
WASHINGTON—When he was FBI director, Robert Mueller operated on the principle that it was best to limit interactions with Congress in order to protect the agency from partisanship.
“Only go when it is unavoidable,” wrote Andrew McCabe, a former deputy director with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in his book “The Threat” of Mr. Mueller’s attitude toward journeys to Capitol Hill. “Minimize your exposure time, don’t get too close to fissile material, keep something in between you and the danger.”
