Malcolm Grout was a 'well-known and much-loved member of the paragliding community'
An experienced paraglider died as winds pushed him off-course and into a Lake District cliff face, an inquest has heard.
The 63-year-old took off from the top of Carrock Fell, but realised the wind conditions were too light and landed at the bottom and walked up, taking off again shortly after. Cockermouth Coroner's Court heard he climbed high into the air and was seen by other paragliders to head off in the south west direction.Around 30 minutes after take off, he radioed other paragliders to say he was experiencing sinking air on his way and he was now at Bannerdale Crags.
Mr Grout, of Great Broughton, near Cockermouth, was found at Sharp Edge along with his parachute. His helmet was found around 328 ft from him. In a tribute issued after his death, the Great North Air Ambulance service said Mr Grout was a 'well-known and much-loved member of the paragliding community'.
