A Competition Commission report into the high cost of data has slammed two of SA’s mobile giants “for oppressing and exploiting the country’s poor”

Cape Town - A damning Competition Commission report into the high cost of data has slammed two of South Africa’s mobile giants “for oppressing and exploiting the country’s poor”. The commission released its provisional report after it conducted an inquiry that included public hearings on the cost of data in the country.

The Data Services Market Inquiry was launched in August 2017. It came after numerous complaints about data costs. “Operators prefer to use promotions and free data than to drop prices. As a result, few consumers know what they really pay per MB,” said Bonakele.
