The MTA is investing over $30 million to improve bus service in Queens, including 17 new local routes, rush hour routes, and increased service on existing lines.
The MTA unveiled its final plan to reconfigure bus routes in Queens , the city's largest borough. According to MTA data, bus reliability has decreased, with speeds dropping 6% since 2015 and wait times increasing by 15 seconds since 2018. Over $30 million is being invested to improve service. The plan includes 17 new local routes, additional rush hour routes connecting areas like Rosedale to Jamaica Station, and improvements to existing routes.
The redesign aims to address rider requests for reliable service, faster travel times, better connections, and simplified service. It will fill in gaps in the bus network, establish new connections with subway lines and the Long Island Rail Road, and improve accessibility by connecting to more ADA-accessible subway stations. 20 routes will see increased frequency or expanded hours, including Union Turnpike, Merrick Boulevard, Guy R. Brewer Blvd, and the western section of Northern Boulevard. The MTA says the new plan reflects the changing needs of Queens communities and modern transportation expectations
