Most often, students tell me they miss Mason, the small bearded dragon that brought the class joy, provided comfort and taught the class unexpected lessons.

Like no time has passed, each student makes their way to their last seating assignment and looks toward Mrs. Lenahan, who sits in a chair at the front of the room and greets them with a smile. “With that being said, I have some bad news,” Mrs. Lenahan shares, before giving them a brief update on what’s happened with Mason over the past week.
As she shares the story, the class remains silent. A few students look around the room to find his tank, hoping for some reassurance he’s OK, but the tank isn’t there.
