The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MBPL) on Tuesday (Nov. 12) filed before the Department of Justice (DOJ) a criminal complaint against the SOCCSKARGEN Marlins over allegations of game-fixing.
Accompanied by investigators of the National Bureau of Investigation , MPBL Commissioner Kenneth Duremdes went to the DOJ to file the case as complainant.
“Generally nag-file kami ng kaso against team management and players ng SOCCSKARGEN,” NBI Agent Allein Rey Delfin, the agent on case, told reporters.In the complaint, the 21 respondents are accused of multiple counts of betting, game-fixing, and points shaving in violation of Sections 1 and 3 of Presidential Decree 483 as amended by PD 1602.
Those who have been named as respondents are members of the SOCCSKARGEN Marlin team, namely, Kevin Espinosa who is team owner and player, and players Jake Diwa, Exequiel Biteng, Jerome Juanico, Abraham Santos, John Patrick Rabe, Matthew Bernabe, Ricky Morillo, Julio Magbanua and Ryan Regalado.
