Executive artistic director Jennifer Eve Thorn, who cofounded the women-focused company in 2004, said the time is right, with the company in a secure financial position

Jennifer Eve Thorn, executive artistic director and co-founder of San Diego’s women-centric Moxie Theatre, announced Thursday that she will step down next June.“Now is the time,” Thorn said in a statement. “Moxie is stronger than we’ve ever been. Our secure financial standing, the commitment of the staff and board, and our dedicated audience are fertile ground upon which a new leader can succeed. The founders and I planned for this day.

Moxie Theatre’s mission is to produce the work of women playwrights to create more diverse and honest images of women in the community. Thorn will leave following the company’s season-closing 75th production. Next week, Moxie opens the second show of its current season, Lucy Kirkwood’s “The Children.” Still to come are Anna Ouyang Moench’s “Birds of North America” in February and Aditi Brennan Kapil’s “Chronicles of Kalki” in May.
