‘Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ leads the lineup of new releases.
ByThere are witchy doings and evil twins aplenty in this spookily unhinged new Marvel movie from director Sam Raimi. It begins with a giant octopus attack and spreads its narrative tentacles from there, yanking us into an alternately goofy and grisly story that pauses every so often to unleash a tidal wave of grief. Benedict Cumberbatch is superb as Dr. Stephen Strange. Also starring Rachel McAdams and Elizabeth Olsen. PG-13 . 126 mins. In wide release.
Mark Wahlberg stars in this faith-based drama about boxer-turned-priest Stuart Long. With his familiar rapid-fire style, Wahlberg can be entertaining. But the film is rarely truly engaging, and the tell-not-show approach to screenwriting renders the characters two-dimensional and hollow. Also starring Jacki Weaver and Mel Gibson. R . 124 mins.In this drama based on a true story, a young soldier and a fighter pilot draw KGB scrutiny after embarking on a secret affair at a Soviet air force base.
