Obituary: Movie executive David Picker helped bring James Bond and the Beatles to the silver screen
Growing up at the movies gave David Picker a preternatural sense for what stars and stories people would like to see on screen.
As an executive at United Artists, Columbia Pictures and Paramount Pictures, he put James Bond and the Beatles into movies and championed the work of Woody Allen and Steve Martin. Colleagues described Mr. Picker, who died of colon cancer at home in Manhattan on April 20 at 87 years of age, as a facilitator who encouraged writers and directors to execute their boldest visions.
