Apple just launched Beats Studio Buds—more than a month earlier than had been rumored.
They’re very little. Apple’s Oliver Schusser described them as the company’s “tiniest, most subtle form factor to date, yet keep Beats’ promise of delivering an immersive sound experience in a beautiful design.”
The earbuds are designed for audio excellence and comfort, Apple says, describing them like this: “The ergonomically tilted acoustic nozzle features a laser-cut micro-vent to ensure pressure relief on the eardrum. And with three soft silicone eartip options and a lightweight design , Beats Studio Buds are incredibly comfortable for all-day use.”Okay, well, marketing speak aside, that’s certainly light and the choice of three ear tips is welcome, and is often absent at this price.
And whatever it was that cut the vent that helps ensure there’s no excess pressure, it’s a good thing. Noise-cancelling, when it’s executed badly, can be uncomfortable to endure. Done well, it’s bliss. It’s something Apple has achieved brilliantly before in AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, though both of those headphones are noticeably more expensive than this pair. The Studio Buds have eight hours’ battery life, with another 16 hours in the case. A five-minute charge gives an hour of playback.
Where those who claimed late July as the launch date may be close to correct is that no final release date has been announced, merely that “this summer” is when we should expect the Beats Studio Buds to go on sale. It looks like that will be July, after all.
