Texas State's rising football program has turned it into an attractive expansion candidate for Group of Five conferences like the Mountain West.

The Mountain West Conference is eyeing Texas State as an all-sports expansion candidate, ESPN 's Pete Thamel reported Thursday evening. The MWC is bracing for the looming exodus of five of its 12 current members – Boise State , Colorado State , Fresno State , San Diego State and Utah State – for the Pac-12 in 2026.
